Company intelligence / Profile preview
Bankhaus Wölbern was a private German investment bank based in Hamburg that specialized in the management of closed-end funds. While primarily a financial institution, it was significantly involved in the life sciences sector through its "Wölbern Private Equity Life Science" funds, which provided venture capital to various biotechnology and medical technology companies. The bank's operations collapsed following a high-profile criminal scandal involving the embezzlement of approximately 147 million Euros by its owner, Heinrich Maria Schulte. This led to the bank filing for insolvency in 2013 and its subsequent liquidation. The entity is no longer active in either the financial or healthcare investment sectors.
