Company intelligence / Profile preview
Barclays Global Fund Advisors (BGFA) was a prominent investment management subsidiary of Barclays Global Investors (BGI). The firm was primarily recognized for its role as the investment advisor and manager for the iShares family of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which became a dominant force in the indexing and asset management industry. In December 2009, Barclays sold the BGI division, including BGFA, to BlackRock in a transformative deal valued at approximately $13.5 billion. Following the acquisition, BGFA's operations and fund management responsibilities were integrated into BlackRock's institutional and ETF platforms.
