Barco Hospital Methodist Church

The Barco Hospital Metodista (Methodist Boat Hospital) is a mobile healthcare initiative operated by the Methodist Church of Brazil (Igreja Metodista) to provide essential medical and dental services to remote communities in the Amazon basin. The program utilizes specialized floating hospital vessels, such as the John Wesley and Manfred Grellert, to reach indigenous and riverside populations in the states of Amazonas and Pará who lack access to traditional land-based healthcare infrastructure. Services provided include primary medical consultations, dental procedures, vision care, and health education, often delivered through partnerships with international NGOs like OneSight and World Vision. The initiative is powered by a rotating team of volunteer doctors, nurses, and specialists, serving as a vital link in the regional public health network for over 20 years.
