Barewa Pharmaceuticals

Barewa Pharmaceuticals was a Nigerian pharmaceutical manufacturing company formerly based in Lagos. The company is primarily known for the 2008 "My Pikin" tragedy, in which its teething syrup was contaminated with diethylene glycol, leading to the deaths of at least 84 children. Following the incident, the company was shut down by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and its production facilities were sealed. In 2013, a Nigerian Federal High Court ordered the company to be wound up and its assets forfeited to the Federal Government. During its operation, the company focused on the manufacture and distribution of over-the-counter generic medications for the West African market.
