Barnes-Hind

Barnes-Hind was a pioneering pharmaceutical and medical device company that specialized in ophthalmology and contact lens care. Founded in 1939 by Harry Hind and Clifford Barnes, the company became a global leader in the eye care industry, particularly known for developing the first wetting solution for hard contact lenses. Throughout its history, Barnes-Hind introduced numerous innovations in contact lens technology, including the Hydrocurve soft contact lens, and therapeutic eye drops for conditions like glaucoma. The company was acquired by Revlon in 1976 and subsequently passed through several owners, including Rorer Group and Pilkington, before its assets were integrated into Wesley-Jessen and eventually CIBA Vision (Novartis). Today, the Barnes-Hind legacy remains a foundational part of modern ophthalmic care history.
