Barr Laboratories was a prominent American specialty pharmaceutical company that specialized in the development and manufacture of generic and proprietary drugs. The company achieved significant recognition for its leadership in women's healthcare, most notably through the commercialization of the emergency contraceptive Plan B. Barr was also a pioneer in the generic industry, frequently utilizing Paragraph IV patent challenges to bring affordable versions of blockbuster medications, such as Prozac, to the market. In 2008, the company was acquired by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries for approximately $7.5 billion. This acquisition integrated Barr's extensive portfolio and its subsidiary, Pliva, into Teva's global operations. Today, Barr's legacy continues through the many products it developed that remain staples in the generic pharmaceutical landscape.
