Company intelligence / Profile preview
Barrx Medical is a medical technology company that specializes in developing and manufacturing minimally invasive devices for the treatment of precancerous conditions of the esophagus. The company's flagship product, the HALO Radiofrequency Ablation System, is designed to remove diseased tissue in patients with Barrett's esophagus, thereby reducing the risk of esophageal adenocarcinoma. The HALO system provides a controlled depth of ablation, allowing for the removal of the epithelium without damaging the underlying submucosa. Beyond Barrett's esophagus, the technology is also applied to other gastrointestinal conditions such as Gastric Antral Vascular Ectasia (GAVE) and radiation proctitis. Barrx Medical was acquired by Covidien in 2012 for approximately $325 million and is now part of Medtronic's gastrointestinal business following Medtronic's acquisition of Covidien.
