Company intelligence / Profile preview
Bear Stearns Health Innoventures (BSHI) was a venture capital firm and a subsidiary of Bear Stearns Asset Management, specializing in early and mid-stage investments within the biotechnology and life sciences sectors. Established in 2001 with a $213 million fund, the firm targeted private companies with innovative research and development, particularly in oncology, infectious diseases, and ophthalmology. BSHI's portfolio featured several successful exits, including Agensys (acquired by Astellas Pharma) and Sirion Therapeutics. The firm was led by industry veterans such as Juergen Drews, the former head of global research at Roche, and Elizabeth Czerepak. Following the acquisition of Bear Stearns by JPMorgan Chase in 2008, the fund's assets and management were integrated into JPMorgan's private equity and asset management divisions.
