Company intelligence / Profile preview
Bedford Laboratories was a leading U.S.-based manufacturer of generic injectable pharmaceuticals and a division of Ben Venue Laboratories, a subsidiary of Boehringer Ingelheim. The company specialized in complex, multisource injectable products across several therapeutic categories, including oncology, anti-infectives, and critical care. At its peak, Bedford offered one of the largest portfolios of generic oncology injectables in the United States, serving a critical role in the hospital supply chain. In 2014, Hikma Pharmaceuticals acquired the assets of Bedford Laboratories for an initial cash consideration of $300 million. This acquisition followed the permanent closure of the manufacturing facility in Bedford, Ohio, due to persistent quality control issues and regulatory scrutiny. The deal included Bedford's extensive portfolio of over 200 abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs) and its intellectual property, significantly expanding Hikma's presence in the sterile injectables market.
