Company intelligence / Profile preview
Beecham Pharmaceuticals was a prominent British pharmaceutical company known for its pioneering work in antibiotics and consumer healthcare. Founded as a family business in the 19th century, it became a global leader after developing the first semi-synthetic penicillins in the 1950s and 1960s. The company was responsible for blockbuster drugs such as Amoxil (amoxicillin) and Augmentin. In 1989, Beecham merged with SmithKline Beckman to form SmithKline Beecham, which later merged with Glaxo Wellcome in 2000 to create GSK. The legacy of Beecham continues today through GSK's extensive portfolio of anti-infectives and mental health treatments.
