Behringwerke

Behringwerke was a seminal German pharmaceutical and biotechnology company founded in 1904 by Nobel laureate Emil von Behring. Headquartered in Marburg, the company became a global pioneer in immunology, specifically known for developing the first effective antitoxins against diphtheria and tetanus. Throughout the 20th century, it expanded into a major producer of vaccines, plasma-derived proteins, and diagnostic reagents. Following its integration into Hoechst AG and subsequent restructuring in the 1990s, the company was divided into several specialized entities. These units evolved into prominent modern healthcare organizations, including CSL Behring, Siemens Healthineers, and GSK's vaccine division.
