Beijing Bionovo Medicine Development was a biotechnology company based in Beijing, China, and a subsidiary of the U.S.-based Bionovo, Inc. The company focused on the discovery and development of novel botanical pharmaceuticals derived from traditional Chinese medicine, primarily targeting unmet needs in women's health and oncology. Its lead product candidate, Menerba (MF101), was a selective estrogen receptor beta agonist developed for the treatment of menopausal hot flashes and reached Phase 3 clinical trials. Another key program, Bezielle (BZL101), was an oral drug candidate for advanced breast cancer that demonstrated promising results in Phase 2 studies. The company utilized a proprietary drug discovery platform to identify and standardize complex botanical mixtures for regulatory approval as prescription drugs. Following the financial difficulties and subsequent liquidation of its parent company in 2012, Beijing Bionovo's operations were discontinued.
