Beijing Fuying Gene Drug Research Center

Beijing Fuying Gene Drug Research Center was a Chinese biotechnology research organization that played a pivotal role in the early development of gene therapy. Founded by Dr. Peng Zhaohui, the center focused on the creation of recombinant adenovirus vectors for cancer treatment. Its most significant contribution was the research and development of Ad-p53, which later became Gendicine, the first gene therapy product to receive regulatory approval for commercial use. The center specialized in targeting the p53 tumor suppressor gene to treat head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and other solid tumors. Although the center is no longer active, its pioneering work established a foundation for the gene therapy industry in China.
