BetaMED Pharmaceuticals, Inc. was an Indianapolis-based pharmaceutical company founded in 1979 by Gregory and Judith Buckley, along with Martin Sweeney, a former Eli Lilly & Co. biochemist. The company focused on the development and manufacture of generic prescription drugs and proprietary treatments, including a patented L-lysine L-glutamate therapy for Herpes simplex virus infections. After experiencing financial difficulties and filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1984, a controlling 80% stake in the company was acquired by Par Pharmaceutical in 1985 for approximately $1.2 million. Following the acquisition, the company was renamed Quad Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
