Biliary Sciences was a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing innovative treatments for liver and biliary diseases. The company's lead research centered on small molecule modulators of the farnesoid X receptor (FXR), a key regulator of bile acid metabolism and inflammation. Its primary development efforts targeted chronic conditions such as primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Biliary Sciences was eventually acquired by Gilead Sciences, which integrated the company's FXR agonist programs into its own extensive liver disease pipeline.
