Company intelligence / Profile preview
BioCal Technology was a life sciences instrumentation company that specialized in the development of high-throughput capillary electrophoresis (CE) systems for DNA, RNA, and protein analysis. The company's core technology focused on automating genetic analysis to provide faster and more cost-effective results compared to traditional gel electrophoresis. Its flagship product, the HDA-GT12, was designed for applications in genomics, molecular diagnostics, and agricultural biotechnology. BioCal was acquired by eGene, Inc. in 2004, which was subsequently acquired by Qiagen in 2007. This acquisition integrated BioCal's technology into Qiagen's portfolio, eventually forming the basis of the QIAxcel automated electrophoresis platform.
