BioDiesel Reactor Technologies Inc. (BDR Tech) was an industrial biotechnology company based in Ottawa, Canada, that specialized in advanced reactor systems for biofuel production. Spun off from the University of Ottawa in 2007, the company developed a proprietary ceramic membrane reactor technology designed to intensify the biodiesel production process. By combining the transesterification reaction and the separation of glycerin and unreacted feedstocks into a single continuous step, BDR Tech's platform aimed to deliver higher-purity biodiesel at lower capital and operating costs. The company was led by Ken Lawless, a prominent figure in the Canadian life sciences sector, and collaborated with major industry players like Greenfield Ethanol. Although the company successfully patented its technology and reached the pilot demonstration stage, it is currently inactive.
