Company intelligence / Profile preview
BioLucent was a medical technology company focused on improving the patient experience in women's healthcare, specifically within breast cancer screening and treatment. The company's primary commercial success was the MammoPad, a radiolucent breast cushion that reduces the discomfort of mammography, thereby encouraging better screening compliance. BioLucent also developed the SAVI brachytherapy applicator for breast cancer treatment, which was later spun off into Cianna Medical. In September 2007, Hologic acquired BioLucent for $70 million to integrate the MammoPad into its breast health portfolio.
