Company intelligence / Profile preview
The BioMedical Materials Consortium (BMM) was a major Dutch public-private partnership (2008–2014) dedicated to advancing regenerative medicine through innovative biomaterials. With a total budget of approximately €90 million, it united over 50 academic and industrial partners, including DSM and Philips, to develop "smart" materials for tissue repair and replacement. The consortium's research was structured around cardiovascular, orthopedic, and nephrological applications, leading to significant advancements in bio-artificial heart valves and bone scaffolds. BMM played a pivotal role in establishing the Netherlands as a global leader in regenerative medicine, eventually transitioning its legacy into the RegMed XB initiative. Its collaborative model successfully bridged the gap between fundamental research and clinical application, resulting in numerous patents and spin-off technologies.
