BioOrbit is a UK-based space biotechnology company and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO) pioneering scalable pharmaceutical manufacturing in microgravity. Founded in 2023, the company leverages the unique physical properties of low-Earth orbit to crystallize complex biologic drugs, such as monoclonal antibodies, into highly ordered, low-viscosity crystalline forms. This crystallization process enables the reformulation of high-concentration therapeutics—which are typically too viscous for self-administration and require lengthy hospital-based intravenous infusions—into subcutaneous, self-injectable formats that patients can administer at home. BioOrbit's proprietary technology is centered around BOX, a compact, autonomous, microwave-sized manufacturing unit designed to scale up crystallization in space from experimental quantities to industrial volumes.
