Company intelligence / Profile preview
Biophan Technologies was a biomedical technology company specializing in making medical devices, such as pacemakers and stents, safe and compatible with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The company developed a suite of proprietary technologies, including specialized coatings and nanomaterials, to reduce heating and interference caused by MRI fields on metallic implants. Biophan's business model primarily focused on developing intellectual property and licensing it to major medical device manufacturers. A significant portion of its patent portfolio was eventually sold to Boston Scientific to enable the development of MRI-safe cardiac rhythm management systems. Although a pioneer in its field, the company eventually ceased active operations after divesting its core technology assets.
