Commense Bio (formerly BioPlx) is a pre-clinical stage biotechnology company developing genetically engineered live bacterial therapeutics to prevent and control invasive infectious diseases. The company's proprietary platform utilizes engineered bacterial strains designed to occupy specific microbiomic niches, employing bacterial interference to exclude pathogens like methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). To ensure safety, Commense Bio integrates programmable 'kill-switch' molecular modifications that trigger self-destruction of the therapeutic bacteria if they enter systemic circulation (blood, serum, or plasma). The company's lead program, CB-235 (formerly CB-502 / BioPlx-01), is an IND-enabling candidate targeting S. aureus infections, with a Phase 1 clinical trial planned for late 2026.
