Bioprex

Bioprex Medical is a biotechnology company specializing in the development of innovative antibacterial coatings for medical devices to prevent hospital-acquired infections. A spin-off from the University of Groningen, the company utilizes a patented technology based on immobilized quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) that are covalently anchored to device surfaces. This contact-killing mechanism effectively eliminates bacteria upon contact without leaching biocides into the patient's body, addressing the limitations of traditional antimicrobial coatings. The technology is designed for application on a wide range of indwelling devices, including catheters, infusions, and surgical implants. Currently in the preclinical stage, Bioprex Medical is focused on demonstrating the safety and efficacy of its three-layer coating system to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.
