BioProgress was a UK-based specialty pharmaceutical and drug delivery company that developed innovative polymer and film systems for the healthcare industry. The company's core technology, XGel, provided a proprietary non-gelatin, plant-based alternative for the manufacture of soft and hard capsules, addressing a significant market need in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical sectors. Beyond XGel, BioProgress developed Solupol for solubility enhancement and TabWrap for advanced tablet coating. The company was publicly traded on both the London Stock Exchange (AIM) and NASDAQ and expanded its commercial portfolio through the acquisition of products like the antacid Rocgel and the establishment of its Dexo subsidiaries in the US and France. BioProgress was acquired by Mears Group PLC in 2008.
