Biorex Research and Development was a Hungarian biotechnology company specializing in the discovery of small molecule therapeutics that modulate the cellular stress response. The company's primary research focus was the induction of heat shock proteins (molecular chaperones) to provide cytoprotection in metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Its lead candidate, BGP-15, was a first-in-class insulin sensitizer that demonstrated efficacy in Phase 2 clinical trials for type 2 diabetes. Biorex was a pioneer in the Central European biotech sector before its intellectual property and lead programs were transitioned to N-Gene Research Laboratories following financial restructuring.
