BIOSAFE Medical Technologies was an American medical device company that pioneered at-home blood collection and diagnostic testing kits. Headquartered in Lake Forest, Illinois, the company developed the Biosafe system, an FDA-cleared method for consumers to collect finger-stick blood samples and mail them to clinical laboratories for analysis. Their product portfolio included tests for cholesterol levels, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). The company's business model focused on expanding access to preventative health screenings through retail pharmacies and direct-to-consumer channels. In 2004, BIOSAFE was acquired by Home Diagnostics, Inc., a leading manufacturer of blood glucose monitoring systems.
