Biosignal was an Australian biotechnology company that specialized in the development of anti-biofilm technologies through the disruption of bacterial communication, a process known as quorum sensing. The company's core technology utilized synthetic furanones, which were designed to block the chemical signals bacteria use to coordinate the formation of harmful biofilms. By preventing biofilm formation without directly killing the bacteria, Biosignal's approach aimed to treat chronic infections and prevent device-related complications without driving antibiotic resistance. The company's pipeline included programs for anti-infective contact lenses and treatments for cystic fibrosis. Despite early research success and a listing on the Australian Securities Exchange, the company struggled to advance its clinical programs and eventually transitioned into the mining sector via a reverse takeover in 2011.
