BioteCon Therapeutics was a German biotechnology company specialized in the development of highly purified botulinum toxin products. The company is best known as the originator of incobotulinumtoxinA, a botulinum toxin type A that is free from complexing proteins, which was later branded as Xeomin. In 2008, BioteCon Therapeutics was acquired by Merz Pharmaceuticals, which integrated the technology into its neurosciences and aesthetics portfolio. The company's research significantly advanced the field of therapeutic toxins by developing formulations that reduce the risk of neutralizing antibody formation and improve stability. Xeomin has since become a major global competitor to Botox, approved for various neurological and aesthetic indications. The acquisition of BioteCon by Merz followed years of successful research and development collaboration between the two entities.
