Biotissue Technologies

Biotissue Technologies was a pioneering German biotechnology company that specialized in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Freiburg, the company developed the innovative BioSeed platform, which utilized autologous cell transplantation to repair damaged tissues. Its lead product, BioSeed-C, was a three-dimensional autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) therapy designed to treat articular cartilage defects in the knee. The company also explored applications for skin and bone regeneration through its BioSeed-S and BioSeed-G programs. Despite achieving clinical and commercial milestones in Europe, the company faced financial insolvency in 2007. Its core assets and technologies were subsequently acquired by TETEC AG, a subsidiary of Aesculap and B. Braun.
