Biovail Corporation

Biovail was a Canadian pharmaceutical company specializing in the development and large-scale manufacturing of branded and generic pharmaceutical products, particularly those using advanced oral drug-delivery technologies. Its most notable product was Tiazac®, a once-daily diltiazem formulation for angina and hypertension. The company grew rapidly through both internal R&D and strategic acquisitions/in-license agreements before merging with Valeant Pharmaceuticals International in September 2010. At the time of its merger, it had several commercialized drugs as well as a pipeline of generics and specialty pharmaceuticals.
