Company intelligence / Profile preview
Biovest International was a clinical-stage biotechnology company primarily focused on the development of personalized immunotherapies for the treatment of B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The company's lead product candidate, BiovaxID, was a patient-specific active immunotherapy (vaccine) designed to target the unique idiotype protein on the surface of a patient's malignant B-cells. Biovest utilized a proprietary hollow-fiber bioreactor technology to produce these personalized proteins in a cost-effective and scalable manner. Despite achieving statistically significant results in a Phase 3 clinical trial for follicular lymphoma, the company faced significant regulatory hurdles with the FDA and eventually ceased active drug development operations following financial restructuring and bankruptcy proceedings.
