Bioxalis Medica was a Belgian biotechnology company and a spin-off from the University of Liège, specializing in the development of innovative oncology treatments. The company's lead program focused on a proprietary formulation of oxaliplatin specifically optimized for Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC). This approach was designed to treat peritoneal carcinomatosis, a severe condition where cancer spreads to the lining of the abdominal cavity, often originating from colorectal or ovarian tumors. By improving the stability and local delivery of the chemotherapy agent, Bioxalis Medica aimed to enhance therapeutic outcomes for patients with limited treatment options. Although the company progressed its lead candidate into clinical trials, it eventually ceased operations and was liquidated in 2017. The company's efforts represented a significant attempt to address an orphan indication within the oncology space using specialized drug delivery technology.
