Blackbird Laboratories

Blackbird Laboratories is a nonprofit life sciences accelerator/incubator based in Baltimore. Founded with a $100 million grant from the Steve & Renee Bisciotti Foundation, it aims to bridge academic research and industry by providing capital, program management, strategic input, and partnerships. The organization focuses on de-risking innovative technologies for commercialization—especially therapeutics—and has launched projects targeting inflammatory bowel diseases with gut-restricted small molecules; schizophrenia with neuronal receptor modulators; precision gene therapy platforms; and digital tools for patient-centric clinical trial navigation. It collaborates closely with Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland Baltimore, Lieber Institute for Brain Development, among others. Its goal includes helping launch up to fifty biotech startups over ten years while attracting $2 billion in venture funding into the region's ecosystem.
