Blacksand Technology

Blacksand Technology was a U.S.-based advanced materials company focused on low-cost titanium and specialty alloy powders and sintered components for additive manufacturing and near-net-shape manufacturing. The company developed proprietary titanium processing technologies including hydrogen assisted metallothermic reduction (HAMR), hydrogen sintering and phase transformation (HSPT), and granulation-sintering-deoxygenation (GSD). Its products and services targeted industrial end markets such as aerospace, medical devices, and other specialty manufacturing applications rather than therapeutics or healthcare delivery. Blacksand also provided R&D services, pilot-scale powder production, powder characterization, and additive manufacturing test-part support. The company was founded in 2013 in Utah and its assets and intellectual property were acquired by IperionX, with the acquisition completed in November 2024 following an earlier option agreement announced in October 2021.
