Blasticon Biotechnologische Forschung

Blasticon Biotechnologische Forschung is a German biotechnology company specializing in cellular medicine and regenerative therapies. Founded in 2002 by Prof. Fred Fändrich, the company developed a proprietary technology to reprogram monocytes (mature white blood cells) into programmable stem-cell-like cells known as PCMOs (Programmable Cells of Monocytic Origin). These cells can be differentiated into various functional cell types, such as insulin-producing cells for diabetes or transplant acceptance-inducing cells (TAIC) to prevent organ rejection. Biotest AG acquired a majority stake in the company in 2006 to advance its cell therapy pipeline. The company's research has primarily focused on immunology and the induction of immune tolerance in transplantation, aiming to reduce the need for long-term immunosuppressive drugs.
