BloodSource

BloodSource is a premier non-profit blood center that provides life-saving blood products and clinical services to hospitals and patients throughout Northern and Central California. Established in 1948, the organization evolved from a local foundation into a regional leader in transfusion medicine, managing a vast network of donation centers and mobile blood drives. In addition to blood collection and distribution, BloodSource offers specialized services including HLA testing, source plasma collection, and therapeutic apheresis. The organization plays a critical role in the healthcare infrastructure by ensuring a stable supply of blood components for surgeries, trauma care, and chronic disease management. In 2016, BloodSource merged with Blood Systems, one of the nation's largest blood service providers. Following the merger, the organization was rebranded as Vitalant in 2018, though it maintains its legacy of service in the California region.
