Blue Valley Hospital was a physician-owned surgical facility based in Overland Park, Kansas, that specialized in bariatric and orthopedic surgery. Founded in 2005, the hospital focused on providing high-quality, specialized care with a particular emphasis on weight loss procedures and pain management. It operated as a boutique-style medical center, offering private suites and personalized attention to its patients. The facility encountered significant regulatory hurdles when the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) terminated its provider agreement in 2018, arguing it did not meet the definition of a hospital. This decision led to a protracted legal battle and the hospital's eventual closure and bankruptcy.
