Company intelligence / Profile preview
BlueStar Battery Systems International was a Canadian technology company that specialized in the design, development, and manufacture of high-performance lithium batteries for the medical, military, and industrial sectors. Founded in 1993 as a spin-off from Ballard Power Systems' lithium battery division, the company became a pioneer in the Vancouver battery technology cluster. Its primary healthcare contribution was the development of specialized batteries for implantable medical devices and other critical healthcare applications. In 2000, the company sold its specialty manufacturing and research subsidiaries to Eagle-Picher Technologies, which continues to operate the business as EaglePicher Medical Power. Following the sale of its core assets, the parent company transitioned to an e-commerce model before eventually becoming insolvent and ceasing operations in 2001.
