Blyth Industries

Blyth Industries (later Blyth, Inc.) was a multi-national consumer products company primarily known for its home fragrance and decorative products, such as candles. While not a traditional biotechnology or pharmaceutical firm, the company entered the health and wellness sector through its significant acquisition of ViSalus, a multi-level marketing company specializing in nutritional supplements and weight management products. Blyth's involvement in the life sciences was largely focused on the commercialization of energy drinks and dietary supplements rather than drug discovery. The company was eventually acquired by The Carlyle Group in 2015 and transitioned to private ownership.
