Bone and Cartilage Institute

The Bone and Cartilage Institute (BCI) was a Belgian biotechnology company focused on the development of regenerative medicine products for bone and cartilage repair. Founded as a spin-off from the University of Louvain (UCLouvain), the company specialized in innovative treatments for orthopedic conditions, most notably the osteoarthritis candidate JTA-004. In 2013, BCI was acquired by Bone Therapeutics to consolidate their intellectual property and clinical pipelines in the musculoskeletal sector. Following the acquisition, BCI's technologies, including its protein-enriched solutions and cell therapy assets, were integrated into Bone Therapeutics' portfolio. Bone Therapeutics subsequently merged with Medsenic in 2022 to form BioSenic, which continues to advance regenerative and inflammatory disease treatments. BCI's legacy remains central to the development of advanced viscosupplements and allogeneic bone cell therapies.
