Boots Flint

Boots-Flint was a pharmaceutical entity created through the 1986 acquisition of Flint Laboratories by the British retailer and drugmaker The Boots Company PLC. The company was primarily focused on the endocrinology market, specifically through its flagship product Synthroid, a synthetic thyroid hormone used to treat hypothyroidism. During its tenure, Boots-Flint became a dominant player in the U.S. thyroid medication market, though it was later embroiled in controversy regarding the publication of bioequivalence studies. In 1995, Boots sold its entire pharmaceutical division, including the Boots-Flint assets, to the German chemical giant BASF for approximately 1.4 billion dollars. These operations were subsequently integrated into Knoll Pharmaceuticals and eventually acquired by Abbott Laboratories in 2001.
