Boulder Community Health

Boulder Community Health (BCH) is an independent, nonprofit health system serving the Boulder region of Colorado. It operates multiple facilities including Foothills Hospital and several clinics and urgent care centers. BCH provides comprehensive medical services with recognized excellence in heart care, neurosurgery, stroke care, orthopedics, cancer care, and mental health. The organization has been an early adopter of new technologies and innovative medical techniques[1][2][3][4]. Originally founded as "Boulder Community Hospital" in 1926 (with roots back to the formation of the nonprofit association in 1922), it rebranded as "Boulder Community Health" in April 2014 to reflect its growth into a regional network[3][5]. The original hospital campus was closed and transferred to the city of Boulder in May 2019 after consolidating most inpatient services at Foothills Hospital[3]. BCH remains one of only two independent nonprofit hospitals in Colorado and celebrated its centennial anniversary in 2022[4]. It employs over five thousand people and affiliates with more than four hundred physicians across fifty-four specialties[7][9]. As a healthcare provider rather than a pharmaceutical/biotech company or CRO/CMO/CDMO entity, it does not have a traditional R&D pipeline. The organization also emphasizes sustainability—Foothills Hospital was the first LEED-certified hospital building in the U.S., featuring rooftop solar panels and gardens for food service use[4].
