Braddock General Hospital

Braddock General Hospital was a community healthcare facility located in Braddock, Pennsylvania, that served the Mon Valley region for over a century. Founded in 1906, the hospital provided essential medical services including emergency care, inpatient surgery, and behavioral health programs. In 1996, the hospital was acquired by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and renamed UPMC Braddock. Despite its long history of service, UPMC closed the facility in January 2010, citing declining patient volumes and significant financial deficits. The closure was highly controversial and sparked extensive community protests and legal challenges. Following its closure, the hospital buildings were demolished to make way for a mixed-use redevelopment project.
