Brighton Hospital

Brighton Hospital, later known as the Brighton Center for Recovery, was a pioneering addiction treatment facility located in Brighton, Michigan. Founded in 1950, it was the first hospital in Michigan and the second in the United States dedicated specifically to the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction. The facility was renowned for integrating the 12-step recovery model into a clinical setting, providing a comprehensive range of services including medical detoxification and residential inpatient care. Over its decades of operation, it became a cornerstone of addiction medicine in the Midwest, serving thousands of patients annually. The hospital was acquired by St. John Providence Health System in 2008, which later became part of the Ascension Michigan network. In late 2023, Ascension announced the closure of the facility as part of a regional restructuring of its healthcare services.
