Buckeye Technologies

Buckeye Technologies was a U.S.-based specialty materials company focused on cellulose-based products rather than a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or healthcare therapeutic business. The company manufactured value-added cellulose specialty products, including absorbent materials, chemical cellulose, and customized paper products used in consumer, industrial, food, and pharmaceutical excipient applications. Its expertise centered on polymer chemistry, fiber science, and large-scale cellulose processing and manufacturing. Buckeye Technologies was acquired by Georgia-Pacific in 2013 for approximately $1.5 billion and no longer operates as an independent public company. Although some of its products had end-market exposure to hygiene and pharmaceutical formulation applications, the company itself was not a life sciences drug developer.
