BYK-Gulden

Byk Gulden was a prominent German pharmaceutical company headquartered in Konstanz, specializing in the development of small molecule therapeutics for gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases. The company is most recognized for discovering pantoprazole, a blockbuster proton pump inhibitor used to treat acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. In 2002, the company transitioned to the name Altana Pharma AG as part of a corporate restructuring by its parent company, Altana. The pharmaceutical business was eventually sold to Nycomed in 2007 for approximately 4.5 billion euros, and later became part of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company. Byk Gulden's legacy includes significant contributions to the treatment of COPD and asthma through the development of roflumilast and ciclesonide.
