C-Scrub

C-Scrub, Inc. was a medical technology company dedicated to improving patient safety through advanced disinfection solutions for vascular access. The company developed the C-Scrub device, a mechanical tool designed to automate and standardize the cleaning of needleless connectors on intravenous catheters. This technology addressed the clinical challenge of inconsistent manual "scrub the hub" techniques, which are a primary cause of catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs). By ensuring a thorough and repeatable disinfection process, C-Scrub aimed to significantly reduce hospital-acquired infections and associated healthcare costs. The company was a spin-off from the Mayo Clinic and received early support from Mayo Clinic Ventures. C-Scrub was acquired by Hospira in 2012, and its technology was subsequently integrated into Hospira's infusion systems portfolio, which is now part of ICU Medical.
