Cabrellis Pharmaceuticals was a San Diego-based biotechnology company focused on the development and commercialization of oncology therapeutics. The company's primary asset was amrubicin, a potent third-generation synthetic anthracycline and DNA topoisomerase II inhibitor. Cabrellis held the exclusive license for amrubicin in North America and Europe from Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma, specifically targeting small cell lung cancer (SCLC). The company was acquired by Pharmion Corporation in 2006 to bolster its oncology portfolio, and the asset eventually moved through subsequent acquisitions to Celgene and then Bristol Myers Squibb.
