Cahaba GBA (Government Benefit Administrators) was a prominent Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) that provided administrative and claims processing services for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). As a subsidiary of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, the company was responsible for managing Medicare Part A and Part B claims, conducting provider audits, and establishing Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs). For many years, it held the contract for Jurisdiction J, which included the states of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. In 2018, Cahaba GBA transitioned its operations to Palmetto GBA after the Jurisdiction J contract was re-awarded by CMS.
