CairnSurgical has developed the Breast Cancer Locator System, a patient-specific, image-guided and 3D printed surgical tool designed to improve the precision of breast-conserving surgery by enabling accurate tumor localization and excision. Clinical studies have shown that the BCL system can significantly reduce positive margin rates—meaning more complete tumor removal—compared to standard techniques. In earlier trials, clear margins were achieved in all patients studied. The device has been commercially launched on a limited basis in Europe and remains investigational in the United States pending completion of a pivotal trial involving nearly 450 women. Results from European post-market studies are expected later this year.
